- Winter 2025 Our STM is constructed in the Ultralow Vibration Lab in the University of Bristol.

- Dec 2025 Christmas Group Dinner at Zizzi Bristol.

- Sep 2025 We welcome several new members to the group!

A warm welcome to Nicholas Popiel, who joins as a postdoctoral scientist.
We also welcome the MSci students Tom, Ophelia, Kacper, and Marija to pursue final year research projects.

- Aug 2025 Shuqiu has been awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering / Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship to develop a new type of quantum microscope to visualise spins and magnetic orders in quantum materials. Understanding spins in quantum materials will be important for advancing spintronics and novel memory devices →See announcement here.

- Jun 2025 Our paper titled “Pair wave function symmetry in UTe2 from zero-energy surface state visualization” is published in Science. We have made a major breakthrough in topological superconductivity using our newly invented Andreev STM technique. We have achieved the first spectroscopic detection of intrinsic topological superconductivity in UTe2, which could massively accelerate quantum computing development. This major discovery opens the door to identifying more materials with exotic quantum properties. Read the paper → Science 388, 938 (2025).

- May 2025 Shuqiu has been awarded the global IUPAP C5 Young Scientist Prize! This international prize recognizes outstanding contributions to low temperature physics and is awarded to only three scientists globally every three years. The prize announcement can be found here.

- Feb 2025 Our group has received a prestigious UKRI EPSRC New Investigator Award to visualize the interplay of electron correlations, topology and magnetism in novel quantum matter using advanced quantum microscopy. This project will focus on exotic magnets and superconductors, whose unique lattice structures unlock new possibilities for quantum science.
